Association International School
— Lower School (K – Grade 5)
The AIS Lower School aims to inspire a lifelong commitment to learning, self-discovery, and social responsibility as well as promoting excellence at all levels of school life. Our students participate in an academic programme that combines comprehensive, hands-on instruction, individualized attention, differentiated instruction and extensive co-curricular opportunities, preparing them for the challenges of middle school, upper school, and beyond. The school aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better world through intercultural connectedness. The learner profiles are integrated in the learning and teaching throughout the curriculum and students’ life.
AIS provides our students with a solid academic foundation. Students are taught critical thinking skills essential in a rapidly changing world. It is a haven for collaboration, exploration, and Discovery.
We value intellectual curiosity and are committed to the education of our students through the development of empathy, ethical behavior, integrity, discipline, and service, based on a firm foundation of Christian values.
All members of the Lower School adhere to the Honor Code and conduct themselves in a trustworthy manner that will further the best interest of the school, their class, and any team or club to which they belong.
The Lower School has two teachers (a lead teacher and an assistant teacher) in a homeroom who handle all core subjects. Music, PE, Drama, Art, Library, French, Spanish, and ICT are taught by specialists. We have hardworking and supportive staff members dedicated to challenging, engaging, and nurturing students of different abilities and with different learning styles through inquiry based teaching and learning.

Literacy/Language Arts
We incorporate a well-structured scheme in Literacy/Language Arts which contains the main elements of the English language: reading, vocabulary, writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. Because reading is a fundamental, strong feature of teaching in the lower years, we use a phonic basis that is effective in producing quality reading and also good spelling, vocabulary, and writing skills. Students in the lower school develop strong verbal reasoning skills through our award-winning vocabulary program.
Our Math Program
The Lower School uses Singapore Math; a combination of hands-on experience and visual application which reflects the recent developments and trends in math education. Singapore Math emphasizes conceptual understanding, skill proficiency, as well as critical thinking skills. These components are integral to the development of mathematical problem-solving ability. Emphasis is also given to reasoning, applications, and the use of technology which enables students to make real life connections of the concepts taught.
Science Program
Our science program seeks to nurture the student as an inquirer. Children are curious about, and want to explore the things around them. The science curriculum leverages on and seeks to fuel this spirit of curiosity. The end goal is confident and self-directed students who enjoy science and value science as an important tool in helping them explore their natural and physical world. The students conduct investigations of the concepts through the inquiry process and they are able to own and celebrate their learning.
