Message from Head of School

Welcome to Association International School!

We are a private, Pre-K to 12th grade independent day and boarding school, serving the local Ghanaian and expatriate communities in Ghana. This brings a wonderful international experience and perspective to our school. Under the leadership of the Head of School, the school is divided into three sections: the Early Childhood, the Lower School, and the Secondary Divisions.

Our school is based on a firm foundation of Christian values, and each student is encouraged to demonstrate empathy, ethical behavior, integrity, discipline, and service in all that they do. We offer a strong academic program that incorporates creative problem-solving, cooperation and group interaction, an appreciation of culture and beauty, as well as healthy emotional and physical growth. All of these facets are designed to help our students become well-rounded and better prepared for the rigors of college/university.

We offer a rigorous curriculum that incorporates best practices from around the world. We use the Singapore Math and Science approach, as well as, aspects of the British and American curricula. As an IB World School, we offer the IB Diploma Program. AIS is also accredited by Cambridge International Examinations and offers Checkpoint and the IGCSE in 9th and 10th grade. As a member of the College Board, our students in 10th, 11th and 12th grade are also able to pursue the Advanced Placement (AP), ACT and SAT Programs. While academic excellence is our focus, the integration of the arts, humanities, language learning, community service, and athletics are closely wound into the AIS experience.

I expect AIS students to have an established tradition of hard work, varied interests, and a passion for learning. The school has joined several international academic and activity conferences; for example, the Math and Science Olympiads, The Young Educators Foundation, Spelling Bee, The American Continental Math League, The Key Club (Kiwanis International) and many other such organizations in order to give our students the opportunity to participate in various competitions and activities with other member schools from around the world. Furthermore, our climate-controlled classrooms and small class sizes create comfortable environments, where each child’s interests are encouraged and rewarded, laying the foundation for a lifetime of achievement.

Excellent teachers are at the heart of an outstanding school. The teachers at AIS come from a variety of Ghanaian, American and British public and private schools and from other countries as well as from comparable international schools in Ghana. They are committed to fulfilling our school’s mission, and to ensuring that their students are successful. They are talented teachers, writers, scientists, mentors, artists, musicians, athletes, coaches, and friends.

Our school has already formed partnerships with independent schools in the United States and the United Kingdom and hopes to establish other alliances with other schools in other countries. We encourage online collaborative learning opportunities with students from these schools. We have also formed close ties with various Embassies and international and local organizations in Ghana.

AIS is governed by a Board of Directors. We encourage our parents to get actively involved in the school through the various parent forums and activities that are held throughout the year.

I look forward to the prospect of your family joining the broader AIS family.
